Daylilies are colourful, long-flowering perennials renowned for their hardiness, drought tolerance, frost resistance and low-maintenance nature. Despite their name, each individual bloom lasts only a single day. However, the plants produce an abundance of flower buds over an extended period, ensuring a spectacular display of colour throughout the flowering season.
Among the most popular and easy-to-grow sun-loving perennials, daylilies thrive in a position receiving 5 to 7 hours of sunlight each day. They perform best in well-prepared soil enriched with organic matter and benefit greatly from a generous layer of mulch.
Versatile and adaptable, daylilies are ideal for borders, pots, pond edges and even steep banks. They are exceptionally well suited to containers and, once established, require very little watering, making them an excellent choice for both experienced and novice gardeners.
CAUTION Harmful if eaten
