Bromeliad Pineapple

Bromeliad Pineapple commonly known as the ornamental Pineapple, is a tropical perennial plant belonging to the Bromeliaceae family. Unlike its commercially cultivated counterparts, this ornamental variety is primarily grown for its striking appearance rather than fruit production. Featuring a compact rosette of stiff, sword-like leaves that are often spiny along the edges, the bright green leaves create a decorative crown. The plant's bold texture and symmetrical form make it an attractive focal point in ornamental gardens or container displays. Its vibrant appearance is further enhanced when the central stalk produces a small, colorful pineapple-like fruit, adding an exotic and tropical flair to the picture.

Ornamental pineapples grow slowly and remain compact, making them well-suited for container gardening, patios, or as indoor decorative plants. They thrive in bright, indirect light or full sun, and require well-drained soil with moderate watering. Warm temperatures and moderate humidity levels are ideal for healthy growth, as the plant is not tolerant of frost. Propagation is typically done through suckers or “pups” that form at the base of the mature plant.

Ensure water is freely available to the plant, and specifically, make sure the cup in the center of the rosette constantly has water. Bromeliads tolerate indoor culture, but ensure plants are misted regularly and fed with a liquid fertiliser every 6 weeks or so.
