Wurmbea Stricta

Wurmbea stricta is known by a number of botanical names in recent years; previously being called Onixotis triquetra, Onixotis stricta and Dipidax have not given this beautiful bulb any sort of an identity crisis but it means not many people may know exactly what this beautiful plant is. It's range of common names is no less confusing; often called South African Water Phlox, Waterflower and even Rice Flower, it is pleasing to say that this plant is much easier to grow than it is to keep up with all of the names it has been known by.

Tall stems hold many attractive pale pink flowers with darker centres, and the tall rush like foliage gives a bit of a hint as to what conditions this gem likes.

Wurmbea will grow in moist boggy soils or shallow garden ponds but they must be kept dry when dormant as they will rot if soil conditions are too wet. Preferring a full sun position, the blooming season is about 3 weeks long and during this time each stem will hold a multitude of delicate looking flowers.
