Tucker Bush- Backhousia Lemon Myrtle

Sometimes referred to as the 'Queen of the Lemon Herbs', Tucker Bush- Backhousia Lemon Myrtle is native to the subtropical rainforests of central and south eastern QLD. This adaptable large shrub will grow well in the more southern states, but a warm sheltered position away from frost and cold winds is essential. With an intensely citrus fragrance and flavour, this beautiful shrub features glossy green oval shaped leaves that can be used in teas, syrubs, baking, sauces- pretty much anywhere the floral citrus flavours will be appreciated. Essential oils distilled from the leaves is fragrant and has antifungal properties making it a very useful plant on many levels.

Lemon Myrtle prefers a well drained, nutrient rich soil, and will also tolerate a fairly sandy soil but regular fertilising with a native fertiliser will be required in poor soils. A full sun or partly shaded spot is ideal, and plants can be easily kept in pots where regular pruning and harvesting of foliage will keep it to a manageable size.
