Piper Betel- Vegetable Pepper Leaf Plant

Not to be confused with the Betel Pepper, or Betel Nut; Piper Betel- Vegetable Pepper Leaf Plant is an edible creeping tropical plant grown for it's handsome dark green leaves and small white flowers. Also going by the name of Wild Pepper, Cha Plu and La Lot, (just to name a few of it's common names); the spicy, peppery leaves of this plant are popular in south east Asian cooking where they are used raw and cooked.

Preferring a warm shaded position with rich soil and good drainage, this plant is perfect as an indoor plant. In warmer areas it can be grown outside but it will sulk if conditions are too cool over Winter. Piper Betel requires regular watering but does not like to be waterogged so care needs to be taken, particularly during the cooler months when the plant is not growing vigorously.
