Pilea Chinese Money Plant

The Chinese Money Plant is an adorable, easy-to-grow houseplant that requires very little maintenance. Many people value it not only for its charm but also for its symbolic meaning. Tradition holds that placing a coin in the plant’s soil can attract financial luck to the household. It’s also believed to help ward off negative energy and create space for positivity to flourish.

Pilea Chinese Money Plant shows off delightful rounded foliage held out from the main stem like little UFO's, or even pancakes, giving it another common name of Pancake Plant. Originating in China, this popular houseplant was practically unheard of in nurseries until recently because it was usually shared between friends and family as it propagates easily from offshoots if it is growing happily- giving rise to yet another common name, the Pass Along, or Friendship Plant.

Pilea are perfect for pots and indoor culture and they require a well drained soil and a brightly lit position out of direct sunlight. Preferring light humidity, Pilea appreciate deep watering once the soil has dried out somewhat, but do not let the plant become waterlogged as this will cause fungal issues and most likely death, particularly during Winter. For best results fertilise regularly with a slow release fertiliser and repot every few years using a good quality potting mix for indoor plants. In warmer climates, these gorgeous plants will brighten up a sheltered shady position outside.

**Chinese Money Plants will face the sun so regularly turning your potted plant about 1/4 turn at a time will keep it growing evenly and in a good shape.
