Perennial Basil

An aromatic herb which has many culinary uses, Perennial Basil and is particularly popular in Mediterranean dishes. With a very similar taste to sweet Basil, it has a slightly more spicy undertone making it perfect for use in a wide range of savoury dishes. Also known as African, Clove or Bush Basil, this culinary herb has large aromatic leaves and features small purple and white flowers throughout most of the year that will attract beneficial insects making it a valuable plant with many different uses.

An evergreen perennial, this plant will supply fresh herbs all year round, and with a slightly woody growth habit will withstand light frosts, extending the season for use of the fresh herbs.

A vigorous grower, Perennial Basil is very hardy and grows well in nearly any soil and climate. This tough plant is capable of growing well with a minimum of care making it an excellent choice for the kitchen garden or potted herb garden. For best results harvest regularly, or cut plants back to soil level when plants become leggy to encourage dense new growth. In very cold climates Perennial Basil will need shelter during the Winter months.
