Japanese Windflower- Anemone Serenade

Anemone Serenade, also known as Japanese Windflower, is a beautiful autumn-flowering perennial that marks the end of summer with elegantly semi-double blooms in deep rose-pink, accented by bright golden-yellow centers. Flowering just as many other perennials begin to fade, its long-lasting blooms are carried on tall, slender stems that sway gracefully in the slightest breeze, giving rise to its poetic common name.

The Japanese Windflower is a captivating perennial that brings elegance to the garden with its striking blooms and graceful form. Its deep green foliage forms an attractive clump at the base, providing a lush backdrop for the delicate, airy flowers.

Thriving in a semi-shaded position, Japanese Windflowers prefer moist but well-drained soil enriched with organic matter. While they are drought-tolerant once established, they benefit from additional watering during the summer months. A light application of fertiliser as flower buds begin to form will encourage a more abundant and vibrant display. However, care should be taken not to overwater, as these plants dislike consistently wet conditions.

After flowering, cut the plants back to ground-level rosettes in winter to tidy the garden and prepare them for the next growing season.

Japanese Windflowers are easy to grow and both drought and frost tolerant, but they do require a little extra care when first planted. To give them the best start, enrich the soil with well-rotted animal manure and ensure the roots stay evenly moist during establishment.
