Erica Darley Dale

Featuring a profusion of bell shaped mauve to lilac pink flowers from late Winter to Spring, Erica Darley Dale is a low growing evergreen shrub that is perfect for adding billowing rounded pillows of colour and texture to the garden. This plant is a real showstopper for adding colour and texture to the Winter garden, and pollinators love it making it a valuable food source when not much else is in flower. Also known and the Darley Dale Heath, it was first found as a chance seedling in Derbyshire U.K in the early 1900's, and this delightful plant has stood the test of time making it a historical favourite.

Thriving in a sunny position, Erica requires a fairly well drained soil, similar to the conditions Australian Native plants appreciate. Avoid waterlogging or too much fertiliser as this South African native likes a poor soil. A light tip prune after flowering will help keep this lovely shrub tidy and compact. Drought tolerant once established, Erica requires a fairly dry position for Winter is cooler climates as cold waterlogged soils will lead to root rot. Protect from frost.
