Cyrtanthus Shepherds Crook

Another rare gem from South Africa, Cyrtanthus Shepherds Crook is a Spring to Summer flowering bulb that is prized for it's decorative foliage and vibrant flowers. This stunning plant shows off up to 10 pendulous flowers on an upright stem that curves over like a shepherd's crook; hence the common name. Also known as Fire Lily, this showy bulb features incredibly attractive tubular bell shaped flowers in the beautiful warm tonings of cream, brick red, pink and apricot.

Like most Amaryllis, Cyrtanthus has adapted to the hot dry conditions of South Africa and is a waterwise bulb that only requires supplementary watering during the growing season if conditions are quite dry and warm. Preferring a morning sun to partly shaded position, Cyrtanthus requires a well drained soil and ensure the neck of the bulb is exposed when planting. During the winter months whilst the bulbs are dormant, keep them reasonably dry and protected from frost. Cyrtanthus grows well in a pot or a rockery where it can tolerate becoming overcrowded.
