Showing off a naturally compact, rounded habit that makes it well suited to smaller gardens, Alyogyne Southern Gem is a fast-growing and beautifully resilient Australian native, celebrated for its silky, deep purple-blue blooms that appear for most of the year. Also known as the Native Hibiscus, Alyogyne has its main flowering flush from spring through autumn, making this stunning shrub a standout feature that brings long-lasting colour and texture to any garden.

Alyogyne grows best in a sunny position, though it will tolerate part shade and still flower well. Plant it in well-drained soil, or use a quality native potting mix if growing in containers. Water regularly while the shrub is establishing, but once mature it becomes pleasantly low-maintenance, showing strong drought tolerance and coping well with light frost. Light formative pruning while the plant is young will help create a dense, rounded shape, and occasional tip pruning after flowering keeps it tidy and encourages fresh growth.
