Ageratum Kona Blue

A fast growing compact plant, Ageratum Kona Blue is a free-flowering variety that delivers a stunning display of soft, fluffy blue blooms throughout the warmer months and right up until the first frosts. Its dense, mounding habit makes it perfect for garden beds, borders, and containers, where it adds a cool splash of colour and texture. Flowering over an extended season, Kona Blue also attracts pollinators, making it both a beautiful and beneficial choice for any garden display.

Commonly known as Floss Flower or Blue Mink, Ageratum thrives in a sunny to partially shaded position with well-drained, fertile soil enriched with compost. It prefers consistently moist soil but not waterlogging, so regular watering is essential during hot or dry periods, especially for potted plants. Feed every few weeks with a balanced fertiliser to encourage lush growth and continuous blooms.

Remove spent flowers to promote new growth and maintain a neat, compact shape. While generally hardy, Ageratum can be affected by aphids, whiteflies, or mildew in humid conditions, so good airflow is beneficial. Usually grown as an annual in cooler regions, it’s ideal for borders, beds, and pots, where its soft blue blooms attract bees and butterflies and add lasting colour to any display.
