Cover with a fine layer of compost and firm gently. Keep soil moist and warm. Seedlings appear in 6-10 days. Thin to the strongest seedlings allowing 40-50cm (16-20in) between plants. Train up wires to ensure fruits go straight, remove growing point at roof level. Occasionally male flowers (those without a swelling behind the flower) may form, especially if plants become stressed. These should be removed as pollinated female flowers may produce bitter fruits.

When To Plant: Early Spring to Summer Harvest: 8-10 weeks Soil Type: compost, sunny position Important Note: These seeds are treated with a fungicide (Thiram or Apron XL), do not eat the seeds or feed them to animals. Fungicide treatment is an AQIS requirement for certain varieties of seeds. It does not affect your crops or harm insects such as bees.

The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) inspires millions of people around the world to get involved in gardening and to appreciate the power and beauty of plants.
