An excellent variety for salads, boiling and mashing, and a very good variety for chips, baking and roasting.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eWhite Star\u003c\/strong\u003e-A larger sized potato with smooth cream coloured skin and flesh. A very good all round type of potato. More suited to warmer climates, White Star has shown excellent yields producing consistantly large tubers.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e1 kg is approx. 8-12 potatoes.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eCertified seed potatoes are grown in controlled field conditions to ensure they are true to type and free from disease. Therefore plants will show vigorous growth and a greater yield. For best results plant after frosts have finished in your area. Before planting, spread potatoes out in a well-lit warm place for several weeks so they get some short thick sprouts. Tubers can be cut so one or two eyes are evident on each piece but ensure cut pieces are allowed to dry before planting to minimise risk of rotting. Ensure pieces are not too small as this can reduce the yield. Plant tubers about 15 cm deep in the soil and then cover with 25-30 cm of mulch or well prepared soil, making a hill around the planted tubers. Potatoes are usually ready for harvest 110-130 days from planting, or when the foliage has completely yellowed and stopped growing, but small early harvests can be taken once new potatoes reach a useable size.
