What is Dichondra Repens?

Dichondra repens also known as Kidney Weed is a very low growing evergreen herbaceous ground cover. It is part of the Convolvulaceae family and is native to Australia and New Zealand. Dichondra Repens has a vigorous creeping habit that forms a dense mat. The foliage is small mid to dark green leaves that is shaped like a kidney. During Spring and Summer small white flowers appear. It prefers a full sun to part shade position in the garden that has moist and well drained soils.

Dichondra Repens are a low maintenance native ground cover. They look excellent as a lawn substitute or planted in between stepping stones. Dichondra Repens will tolerate light foot traffic. It is ideal for cottage gardens, rockeries, pots and hanging baskets. It is frost and drought tolerant once established.

How To Plant Dichondra Repens

Plant in full sun to part shade, 25-30cm apart with the plant at the same level as it was in the pot. Plant in a hole at least twice the size of the pot.

Dichondra Repens Plant Care

Water regularly during warmer months. Allow to dry out before watering again. Water when rainfall isn't enough in cooler months. If the soil is dry to touch then water as they like the soil to remain moist. Fertilize with a slow release general fertiliser in Spring.
