Hippeastrum Doublet is one for the collectors!

This stunning double Cybister Hippeastrum shows off large flowers with amazing rows of narrow white petals heavily striped with deep pink. No two of these overlapping petals are the same on this variety, making it a guaranteed point of interest when it’s in flower.

For a spectacular floral display you simply cannot go past Hippeastrums. Also known as Amaryllis, these large spectacular trumpet shaped flowers are produced in Summer from bare bulbs, followed by strappy green foliage as the flowers are dying off. Hippeastrums are easy to grow in pots containers or in clumps as a garden display. Bulbs need to be planted with the top 1/3 of the bulb above the soil.

The ‘Spider’ or Cybister group of Hippeastrum are unique, often having two toned flowers and a much thinner and sometimes twisted petal shape emerging from small to medium sized bulbs. Highly prized for their unusual colour and form, it is hard to believe that these beauties really are as easy to grow as their larger flowered cousins. These extra large bulbs are supplied dormant in a special presentation tin commemorating 70 years of Van Berkel Bulbs here in Australia. Supplied with pre drilled holes you can simply add a good quality potting mix and grow your beautiful bulb in our special tin. Or you can enjoy the majesty of this beautiful flower either inside as a vase grown flowering bulb, or outside as a potted specimen or in a garden bed.

"I am so excited to introduce you to a very special limited release of a brand new ‘Double’ Cybister Hippeastrum called ‘Doublet’. Growing Cybister Hippeastrums has become a special interest of mine, and ‘Doublet’ is an exquisite first ever of its kind hybrid, layering rich red stripes over white and twisting double perianth. It is simply stunning to behold.

This variety has been available overseas for a small number of years, however its taken time to get stock onto our import permitted list and then the wait to secure only 100 bulbs two years ago, with no access to more since then. They have grown on very successfully to the biggest size Hippeastrum Doublet Bulbs we have ever grown, so I simply couldn’t wait until next year to release the first 20 bulbs. here is our first ever release of an extremely limited number; and we will be following with only 30 more bulbs next season as we have to allow the rest to produce babies over the coming years.

It is a long complicated process for a new bulb variety to enter Australia, and be proved ready for release, and a nervous time for one with such limited availability. We are selling this special release bulb fittingly packaged in our Decorative Tin Planter, giving a nod to 70 years of Van Berkel Bulbs in Australia.
