Showing off inky purple blooms with a glowing red center, Babiana Rubrocyanea is perhaps the most striking of the 'Baboon Flowers'. An extremely tough performer, the pleated green foliage emerges from the soil in late Autumn/ early Winter, and the stems of deep purple blue flowers with a glowing red centre will stop you in your tracks in Springtime when they appear. These lovely flowers are not fragrant so they are ideal for low allergy gardens.

Babiana rubrocyanea is every bit as hardy as the well known and loved Babiana stricta, and will cope with most soil types so long as they are not waterlogged. Best grown in a 'Mediterranean' type of climate, this family of Babiana do not cope well with humidity or extremely cold conditions. For areas with a cold Winter we recommend a sheltered position away from frost.
