Phylica Hydra

A truly tactile experience, Phylica Hydra is also known as Featherhead. This enigmatic plants features beautiful feather-like foliage in buttery lemon and lime tones, shrouded in creamy silver hairs making this smaller growing shrub look like a cloud of furry stems that are a delight to touch. In late Winter/ early Spring flattened snowy white bracts accentuate the beautiful flower heads.

Phylica is a genus of hardy shrubs belonging to the Rhamnaceae family and closely related to the Proteaceae, both integral to the iconic fynbos landscape. Best known for their feathery grey-green foliage, Phylica brings a soft, elegant texture to gardens and containers alike.

Ideal for full sun positions, Phylica performs exceptionally well in coastal conditions and low-water landscapes. These plants are very low maintenance and drought tolerant once established, thriving in a range of soil types—provided the soil is extremely well-drained. For best results, Phylica are often grown in containers using an Australian native potting mix, and should be fertilised with an Australian native plant fertiliser only.
