Alyogyne West Coast Gem

Also known as the Native Hibiscus, Alyogyne West Coast Gem is a fast-growing and beautifully resilient Australian native, celebrated for its silky, deep-blue blooms that appear for most of the year. With its main flowering flush from spring through autumn, this stunning shrub brings long-lasting colour and texture to any garden.

Naturally, Alyogyne can grow into an open, slightly sprawling shape, but with a little formative pruning when young, it develops into a dense, compact, and highly ornamental shrub. Its rich evergreen foliage and continual display of vivid flowers make it perfect as a feature plant, in mixed native beds, or as a striking potted specimen.

Alyogyne grows best in a sunny position, though it will tolerate part shade and still flower well. Plant it in well-drained soil, or use a quality native potting mix if growing in containers. Water regularly while the shrub is establishing, but once mature it becomes pleasantly low-maintenance, showing strong drought tolerance and coping well with light frost. Light formative pruning while the plant is young will help create a dense, rounded shape, and occasional tip pruning after flowering keeps it tidy and encourages fresh growth. For best results, feed in spring and early autumn with a low-phosphorus native fertiliser to support healthy foliage and continuous blooming.
