Native to Southern USA, Louisiana Iris will thrive nearly anywhere in Australia so long as they have access to constant moisture. Also known as Swamp Iris or Dixie Iris, these beautiful perennial Iris will take cooler conditions as well as more tropical conditions making them one of the few Iris that will grow well in a humid climate.
With flower stems on some varieties reaching up to 1m in height, Louisiana Iris will create a focal point along the edge of a pond or dam, and will also grow in an urn or wine barrel; the only criteria for successful growth is constant moisture meaning a boggy spot in the garden is also possible to satisfy the needs of these stunning plants.
Plant these Summer dormant rhizomes 2-5 cm below the soil or pot surface in a full sun to apartly shaded position. Mulch and water in well if planting in a garden bed or pot. During dry periods, if planted in the ground or in pots, they need a regular soaking to prevent the rhizome from drying out.
