Murraya Curry Leaf Tree

Murraya Curry Leaf Tree is a small evergreen tree with long broad highly aromatic fern-like leaves. It produces clusters of small white fragrant flowers in summer followed by shiny black berries.

The leaves are used in Indian cooking and will keep for up to a week if kept in a dry plastic bag in the fridge. To preserve them for longer periods, pick curry leaf leaves when they are green and full of flavour and freeze them, keep the leaves intact before freezing them.

The berries do not have a culinary use. The flesh of the berries is edible though the taste described as ‘medicinal’. The berries also contain a single large seed which is toxic and should not be eaten.

Requires rich well drained soil in a warm sheltered position. When growing in colder climates keep it in a large container and move it to a warm position in winter.
