Korean Box (Buxus koreana), also known as Korea Box, is a beautiful, hardy evergreen shrub prized for its small, glossy green leaves and naturally dense, compact growth habit. Similar in appearance to Dutch Box but with a slightly taller growth habit and improved tolerance to warmer, drier conditions, this attractive variety is an excellent choice for creating neat, formal hedges and garden borders. Its fine foliage and naturally bushy form provide year-round greenery and structure, making it a favourite for both traditional and contemporary gardens.

Perfect for low hedging, garden edging, pathway borders, topiary and formal landscaping, Korean Box is an outstanding choice for creating beautifully defined garden spaces. Its dense growth responds exceptionally well to regular clipping, allowing it to be shaped into neat, uniform hedges, compact rounded shrubs or decorative topiary features. Equally attractive in decorative pots and containers, Korean Box makes a lovely addition to patios, courtyards, entranceways and outdoor entertaining areas. For a dense, continuous hedge, we recommend planting approximately 20cm apart. Under favourable growing conditions, plants can form a neat hedge around 30cm tall in approximately 3 years.

Exceptionally hardy and easy to grow, Korean Box thrives in full sun to part shade and prefers fertile, well-drained soil. Frost tolerant and more adaptable to warmer, drier summers than some other Buxus varieties, this reliable evergreen requires relatively little maintenance once established. For best results, fertilise during Spring and trim regularly throughout the growing season to encourage dense, compact growth and maintain the desired shape and size. A fantastic choice for gardeners wanting a classic, low-maintenance evergreen hedge that provides lasting beauty and structure.

Please Note: Young Buxus plants may occasionally develop bronze, copper or autumn-toned foliage during particularly cold Winters. This is a normal response to cold weather, especially when chilly nights are followed by bright sunny days or cold winds. The discolouration is generally temporary, with plants returning to their attractive green colour as temperatures warm in Spring. Maintaining healthy soil conditions and applying a suitable all-purpose fertiliser in early Spring will help encourage fresh, healthy growth. Where soil conditions require it, an Autumn application of Dolomite lime may also be beneficial.
