Dutch Box (Buxus) is a popular, slow-growing evergreen shrub prized for its compact, dense growth habit and attractive, glossy green foliage. With its small oval leaves and naturally neat appearance, Dutch Box is an excellent choice for creating beautiful formal hedges, low borders and decorative topiary. Particularly well suited to cooler climates, this hardy shrub is shade tolerant and responds exceptionally well to regular trimming, making it a favourite for traditional and contemporary gardens alike.

Ideal for lining pathways, defining garden beds or creating neatly clipped evergreen hedges, Dutch Box provides year-round colour and structure with minimal maintenance. Preferring a well-drained soil in a full sun to partly shaded position, this versatile shrub benefits from regular watering while establishing and an application of complete fertiliser in Spring to encourage healthy, lush green growth.

Please Note: Young Buxus plants may develop bronze or autumn-toned foliage during very cold Winters. This is a natural response to low temperatures, particularly when cold nights are followed by bright sunny days or exposure to cold winds. An application of Dolomite lime in Autumn, where soil conditions require it, and fertilising before the onset of cold weather may help minimise this discolouration. Feed with an all-purpose fertiliser in early Spring as temperatures begin to rise, and plants will generally return to their normal rich green colour as new growth emerges.
