American Honeysuckle (Lonicera x americana) also known as American Woodbine is a semi evergreen climber. It is part of the Caprifoliaceae family and is a hybrid of 2 European Honeysuckles, Lonicera etrusca and Lonicera caprifolium. American Honeysuckle is a vigorous climber that has ovate, dark green leaves. It flowers from Summer to Autumn with large flower heads of deep rose and creamy lemon that are fragrant. The perfume is strongest at night. After the flowers finish, in Autumn ornamental red berries form. American Honeysuckle is suitable for full sun to part shaded areas in the garden that has well drained soil. They like their roots in the shade and their tendrils in the sun.
