Gazania Growing Guide
What is Gazania?
Gazania (Gazania hybrids) also known as Treasure Flower or African Daisy is a clump forming perennial. It is part of the Asteraceae or daisy family and is native to South Africa. Gazania is a ground cover that produces slender long lobed silvery-green leaves. The main flowering period is Spring through to early Summer, however they will flower at other times of the year as well. Brightly colour daisy like flowers will appear on single straight stems above the foliage. The colour range from large solid colours of deep reds, oranges and yellows to vertical strips of white, yellow, orange or pink on some petals. When position in the garden they need full sun and are not too fussed with soil type as long as it is well draining. They are drought tolerant when established but dislike frost and wet Winters.
Benefits of Growing Gazania
Gazania are an easy to grow plant that will establish very fast and have little maintenance afterwards. They are a great option to prevent weed growth due to their tight clumping format. They are idea in dry gardens, rockeries. in borders, mass plantings or coastal gardens.

Climatic Zones
Cool to mild tropical.

Height: 30cm, Width: 60-70cm
When To Plant Gazania
Plant in early Spring. If sowing from seed sow in Spring and Summer.
Soil Preparation
They are happy with most soil types even old poor soil will do as long as its well drained.
How To Plant Gazania
Plant in full sun, 30-40cm apart with the plant crown at soil level.
Gazania Plant Care
Water to establishment. Water occasionally during dry spells.
Mulch annually with compost.
A light liquid feed with a slow acting formation will help before flowering but be careful not to overdo the fertiliser.
Remove dead or faded blossoms to encourage the formation of additional flowers throughout the flowering season. Remove any dead foliage.
Fungal problems can occur if the drainage is not too good. Too much humus or clay will also cause fungal problems.
